Electric racing car to run at Millbrook
Lola-Drayson electric racing car
One of the world’s fastest electric cars will take to the track this week at a major industry showcase for low-carbon vehicles.
Visitors to LCV2012, which takes place 5-6 September at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, will have a rare opportunity to see the 850bhp Lola-Drayson B12/69EV in action.
The demonstration of the Le Mans prototype racer is part of a new collaboration between event organiser Cenex and the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA), whose honorary president, Lord Drayson, is also managing partner at the Drayson Racing Technologies team.
The two organisations will co-present a seminar, ‘High Performance, Low Carbon’, at LCV2012 on Wednesday 5 September.
The session will highlight the role companies within the sector can play to accelerate the transfer of low carbon technologies from motorsport into passenger and commercial vehicles, as an important stepping stone in driving down the carbon footprint of vehicles on UK roads.
Speakers in the session include Jon Hilton, managing director of Flybrid Automotive Ltd, Angus Lyon, chief engineer from Drayson Racing, and George Lendrum, managing director of RML Group.
Cenex chief executive officer Robert Evans commented: “The UK motorsport industry provides a hugely valuable test bed for a wide range of low carbon vehicle technologies. It is not only highly demanding, but is quick to generate results which filter down into passenger vehicles. There are many examples of companies from the UK low carbon vehicle supply chain working in the motorsports sector, and the ‘High Performance, Low Carbon’ seminar will showcase the potential of these projects.”
Chris Aylett, CEO of the MIA added: “The efficient use of energy has been at the heart of engineering success in motorsport for over 100 years. I am delighted LCV2012 is helping to promote the world class, low carbon technology available from the UK’s high performance engineering and motorsport sector.”
Cenex is a Government-backed agency set up to promote UK market development in low carbon and fuel cell technologies for transport applications
